ITIL is the predominant framework for IT Service management. Historically, ITIL was developed in early 1980’s and it was owned by Great Britain Govt authorities. As of the beginning of 2014, the ITIL® trademark and intellectual property has been owned by AXELOS, a joint venture between the UK Govt. Cabinet Office and Outsourcing giant Capita Plc. Axelos was acquired by PeopleCert in July 2021. The first ITIL publications where released in 1989. Later ITIL V2, released in 2000/2001and ITIL V3 released in 2007. ITIL 4 released in 2109 is the latest version. It embraces the latest trends and technologies and service management. It provides a flexible basis to support organizations as they undergo digital transformation and integrate digital technology into all areas of their business. There are multiple levels and disciplines of ITIL certifications. ITIL 4 Foundation is the entry level certification where as ITIL Master is the highest level.
